There are three types of suspension: independent, semi-independent, and dependent.
Independent suspension is when each wheel on the same axle is able to move freely of the other. This is most commonly seen on off-road vehicles and vehicles with a lot of ground clearance, as it allows the wheels to move independently over uneven terrain.
Semi-independent suspension is when two wheels on the same axle are able to move independently, but are still connected by a solid axle. This is most commonly seen on vehicles with live axles, such as trucks andSUVs.
Dependent suspension is when all of the wheels on the same axle are connected and move together. This is most commonly seen on passenger cars.
