The Chicago Manual of Style provides guidelines for two different styles of citation: author-date and notes and bibliography. For a book title in Chicago style, you would generally use the author-date style. This style requires you to include the author's last name and the year of publication in your citation, like this:
(Smith 2020)
If you're using the notes and bibliography style, on the other hand, you would include a full citation for the book in your footnotes or endnotes, and then just include the author's last name and the page number in your in-text citations, like this:
- Smith, John. 2020. My Book Title. Chicago, IL: My Publisher.
If you're unsure which style to use, check with your professor or editor.
