There is no definite answer as to when the title page was invented. However, title pages have been found in manuscripts dating back to the early 13th century. The earliest known title page was in a manuscript of the Roman de la Rose, a medieval French poem, which was dated 1230. Title pages became more common in the 15th century, and by the 16th century, they were standard in most printed books.
