jesse_sims Which DNA polymerase has proofreading activity?I'm wondering if any of the DNA polymerases have proofreading activity. I know that some of them have exonuclease activity, but I'm not sure if that includes proofreading activity.
Elif879 There are several DNA polymerases that have proofreading activity, including Pol I, Pol II, and Pol III.
brownduck723 There are several DNA polymerases that have proofreading activity. These include: DNA polymerase I: This is an enzyme that was discovered in the 1970s and is found in bacteria and archaea. It has both polymerase and proofreading activity and is found in DNA replication, recombination and DNA repair processes. DNA Polymerase III (Pol III): It is a DNA polymerase component of the prokaryotic replisome. It is a complex enzyme that is responsible for the primary activities of DNA replication and can also proofread mistakes during DNA synthesis. DNA polymerase beta (Pol β): Pol β is found in eukaryotic cells and it is involved in the repair of DNA damage caused by ultraviolet light. It is a DNA polymerase with proofreading activity and is also involved in other DNA repair processes. DNA polymerase gamma (Pol γ): Pol γ functions in the mitochondrial DNA replication and is involved in repairing DNA damage due to oxidative stress. It is a proofreading polymerase. DNA polymerase delta (Pol δ): This is another DNA polymerase which is involved in the replication of chromosomal DNA. It is also involved in DNA repair pathways and has proofreading activity.
