Raavan, the ten-headed demon king, was defeated by Lord Rama. Rama is the incarnate of Lord Vishnu and is hailed as the "Maryada Purushottam" or the perfect man. He is the seventh avatar of Vishnu. Rama was born to Dasharatha, the king of Ayodhya and his wife, Kausalya. Rama's wife was Sita and his brother was Lakshmana. Rama's story is recounted in the Hindu epic, the Ramayana. The Ramayana tells the story of Rama's battle against Raavan to rescue his wife, Sita, who had been abducted by Raavan. Raavan was defeated by Rama in a fierce battle and was killed.
