In poetry, a beat is the basic metrical unit of rhythm. A beat can be represented by a stressed syllable followed by an unstressed syllable (da-DAH). In English, a beat usually consists of an unstressed syllable followed by a stressed syllable (duh-DUH).I'm curious to know how people feel about beats in poetry. Do you think they are important? Do you think they add to the rhythm of the poem? Or do you think they are unnecessary and add nothing to the poem?
