The 'Edit' command in CMD is used to open the default text editor of Windows, the Notepad. The command is available in all versions of Windows. To open the Notepad with the Edit command, you need to open the Command Prompt (CMD) with administrator privileges.
To open the Command Prompt, go to Start > Search > type in “CMD” > right-click, and click on “Run as administrator”.
Once in the CMD window, type the command “edit” and press enter. This will open the Notepad for you to create/open text/document files, or you can use this window to run scripts and write commands.
Alternatively, you can use the full path of the Notepad file, like this:
C:\Windows\System32\Notepad.exe
This will also open the Notepad, but the 'Edit' command is shorter and easier to remember.
