How to create XY chart in Excel?

I need to create an XY chart in Excel for a project I am working on. I have never done this before, so I am not sure where to start. Can anyone provide some guidance?

To create an XY chart in Excel:

Select the data you want to plot.
Click the Insert tab on the ribbon.
Click the XY (Scatter) button in the Charts group.
Select the chart type you want from the dropdown list.
Click the OK button.
