How to make columns in InDesign

I have a document that has a lot of text in it and I need to put it into columns. The problem is, I can't find the span columns function in InDesign! Does anyone know where it is?

InDesign allows you to add columns to a frame, but if you can't see the column settings, it's because the frame isn't selected. To select the frame, click on it with the Selection tool (the black arrow). Once the frame is selected, you'll see the column settings in the Control panel.

The answer is that the 'Span Columns' option is only available when you have a text frame selected. If you don't see the 'Span Columns' option in the 'Frame Fitting' drop-down menu, it means you don't currently have a text frame selected.
