ISBN 10 is a standard, international product identification number for books and other print materials. It is a 10-digit code, which contains four parts.
The first part is a 3-digit identifier, also known as the ‘group’ number. This identifies the location where the book was published and its language.
The next five digits are a unique ‘publication’ number. This identifies the book’s publisher and indicates the edition of the book.
The next two digits are the ‘check’ digits. These digits can be used to verify the accuracy of the ISBN 10 number.
The last digit is the ‘number’ digit. This identifies the format of the product, for example whether it is a paperback or hardcover.
The ISBN 10 number is important for booksellers, as it provides them with a quick and simple way to identify products and track sales.
