The epilogue of War and Peace by Leo Tolstoy is set nineteen years after the novel's end. It opens with a description of the Platonovs' country estate and follows the lives of the main characters, as well as their children.
Prince Andrei has discovered the joy of family life after a near-death experience, and is married to Natasha, who is now a mature lady. Pierre, now a successful courtier, awards honorary medals to people close to him. Nicholas Rostov, who left the army, has become a successful landed gentleman, managing his estate and children. The Bolkonsky's estate has come under the ownership of their daughter, Marya.
The epilogue begins with a description of the life of the beloved Platon Karataev, who saved Pierre's life during the war. We discover that he died of a fever in prison camp. Another description follows by a posthumous celebration of his memory by one of the characters.
At the conclusion of the epilogue, Prince Andrei marvels at the continuity of life and death, at the opportunities it offers and how times change. He states that, despite all the difficulty and hardship, life is a blessing.
Hope this helps.
