Fixing the column width in a table is a simple process that involves a few steps.
To get started, first make sure that the column you need to adjust is selected. Here are some methods you can use to make sure the right column is selected:
If you’re selecting the column from the Ribbon, you need to make sure that the correct column is highlighted in blue.
You can also use the mouse to select a certain column. To do that, simply click onto any cell in the column you want to adjust.
Keyboard shortcuts can also be used to select the column. The CTRL + Space shortcut will select the whole column while CTRL + Shift + Space will select a row.
Once you’ve selected the column you need, you can start adjusting it.
To resize the column width, you need to hover your mouse over the right border of the column you’re adjusting. A black line will appear that shows where the right side of the column is located.
Press and hold down your left mouse button and then move the mouse to the right while still holding down the left click button. You’ll see the selection increase as you move the mouse.
When the column is the size you want it to be, let go of the left mouse button. Your column width should now be set.
If you need to adjust multiple columns at once, you can also use the mouse to select them. To do that, use the same left-click method mentioned in the beginning of this answer. Once the columns are selected, you can continue with the resizing instructions described above and all the columns you’ve selected should now have the same width.
