Amazon Publishing is the umbrella term for the publishing arm of Amazon. It includes Amazon's traditional publishing imprints, Kindle Direct Publishing and CreateSpace for self-publishing, and Audible for audio books.
Amazon Publishing is divided into imprints that focus on different genres. The main imprints are Amazon Encore, AmazonCrossing, Amazon Montlake Romance, Grand Harbor Press, Thomas & Mercer, Lake Union, Two Lions, and Skyscape. They each have their own particular models and categories that they focus on. For instance, Amazon Encore publishes reprints of out-of-print novels, while AmazonCrossing focuses on translations of international literature.
Authors who are looking to publish with Amazon have multiple options, depending on their particular needs. Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) is Amazon’s self-publishing service that lets authors publish and distribute their e-books worldwide. Amazon also offers CreateSpace, which allows authors to produce, publish, promote and sell print-on-demand paperback, hardcover and audio books.
Authors who are looking to publish a title with one of Amazon’s imprints can send a proposal to Amazon as part of their Kindle Scout program. The books featured in this program are voted on by readers, and if selected, Amazon will commission, edit, and publish the book with one of its imprints.
