After Justice League Unlimited, the DC animated universe continued with a few direct-to-video movies that picked up where the series left off. These movies featured some fan-favorite characters, storylines and even introduced new ones. Here’s what happened after Justice League Unlimited:
Justice League: The New Frontier (2008): The movie takes place in the late 1950s, focusing on the changing times and the emergence of a new breed of superhero. It introduces some of DC’s most iconic characters like Martian Manhunter, The Flash, and Green Lantern.
Batman: Gotham Knight (2008): This movie is a collection of six short stories focusing on Batman’s early days in Gotham City. The movie isn’t part of the DC Animated Universe, but it’s still worth watching.
Superman/Batman: Public Enemies (2009): Here, Lex Luthor becomes the President of the United States and labels Superman as a threat to national security, forcing the Man of Steel and the Dark Knight to team up to take him down.
Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths (2010): In this movie, the Justice League encounters the Crime Syndicate, the evil version of the Justice League from an alternate universe. The movie introduced Owlman, a villain who is the Batman counterpart in the Crime Syndicate.
Batman: Under the Red Hood (2010): This is probably the most emotional movie of the DC Animated Universe. The movie explores the story of Jason Todd, the second Robin who was brutally murdered by the Joker, and his return as the antihero, the Red Hood.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse (2010): In this movie, Superman and Batman rescue a young Kryptonian girl who they later discover is actually Superman's cousin, Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl.
Young Justice (2010-2013): This series focuses on a group of teenage superheroes who are mentored by members of the Justice League.
Justice League: Doom (2012): In this movie, the Justice League faces their greatest challenge yet when they are targeted by Vandal Savage, who uses Batman’s contingency plans against them.
These are just a few examples of what happened after Justice League Unlimited, and there are several other animated movies and TV shows that were released that continued the DC Animated Universe. The legacy of the Justice League still lives on in the world of animation, and fans of DC Comics have plenty to keep them entertained.
