I think the Michael Rosen poem that I have memorized the most is "Chocolate Cake". This poem is so nostalgic, comfortable and tender that it is impossible to forget. It captures the joy of the moment and takes me back to my childhood memories.
The lines from the poem that have stayed with me the most are,
"This is the story: of chocolate cake
So rich and tasty, no one can make
A piece for Father, Mother and me
And a piece for Grandpa, way up in a tree!”
This poem speaks to me on so many levels, making it easier to recall and memorize. It celebrates the joy of sharing and the simple things in life. It also captures the feeling of security and love in a family.
If you'd like to get to know Michael Rosen's poetry a little more and possibly memorize some, I recommend you start with some of his best-loved poems like "The Taking Of The Tah-Tah" and "We're Going On A Bear Hunt". You can find some of his poems online, such as on the Poetry Foundation website, or in any of his books.
I hope this helps, and that you find as much joy as I do, in memorizing Michael Rosen's wonderful poems.
