The UPSC (Union Public Service Commission) conducts a number of competitive exams in India each year. One of the most prestigious exams is the Civil Services Examination (CSE) conducted by the UPSC. This exam is considered the toughest among all the competitive examinations in India.
The CSE is a three-stage process that consists of seven papers – two compulsory papers and five optional papers. The two compulsory papers are:
Paper I – General Studies I – This paper evaluates your knowledge and understanding of Indian History, Indian and World Geography, Indian Polity and Governance, and its economic and social development.
Paper II – General Studies II – This paper evaluates your knowledge and understanding of Indian and World History, Indian and World Geography, Indian Culture, Heritage and Indian Constitution.
The optional papers consist of the following five papers:
Paper III – Any one of the 23 optional subjects
Paper IV – Any one of the 23 optional subjects
Paper V – Any one of the 23 optional subjects
Paper VI – Any one of the 23 optional subjects
Paper VII – Any one of the 23 optional subjects
These optional papers are chosen from the 23 different subjects offered in the UPSC CSE. The marks obtained in these papers will decide the merit list of the candidates. Taking a comprehensive overview of all the seven papers is important to pass the test.
