Outlining an image in Illustrator is actually quite simple! Here's a step-by-step breakdown of what you need to do:
- Open your desired image in Illustrator.
- Select the image using the Selection Tool.
- Go to Object >image Trace> Make.
- From the Image Trace panel, choose the Desired Outline Option.
- Click ‘Expand’ which is located in the same panel. This will convert the traced image into a vector graphic.
You can also use the Pen tool or the Pencil tool to draw outlines around the image. First of all, you need to lock the layer where the image is located using the Layers Panel. From the Toolbox select the Pen tool or the Pencil tool, draw a path and then customize it. Creating an outline of the desired shape, double-click on the Pen Tool to end the path.
If you want to add more details to the image, select the Path Selection Tool from the Toolbox, select the path and add anchors and nodes, to manipulate the path further.
