No one likes a bad sequel, and unfortunately a lot of movies have terrible sequels. Here are some movies with unfortunate sequels that didn’t quite stand up to the original:
Jaws: The Revenge (1987) – The final installment of the Jaws franchise was a giant mess, with jarring changes in tone, lack of emotion in the characters, and cheap production values. Many consider it the worst movie in the series and Roger Ebert gave it a single-star review.
Speed 2: Cruise Control (1997) – Despite its stars (Sandra Bullock and Jason Patric), this film was almost universally disliked by critics and audiences alike for it's silliness and lack of interest.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008) – The final chapter starring Indiana Jones was not quite the grand finale we were hoping for. As the fourth film, it seemed to lack the heart and emotion of the original trilogy and was full of lens flares and CGI that wasn’t necessary for the plot.
The Godfather: Part III (1990) – This final installment of the famous Godfather trilogy was quickly branded as a huge disappointment by both critics and fans. It failed to match the greatness of the first two films and was even criticized by its lead actor, Al Pacino.
Grease 2 (1982) – This sequel to the classic musical never quite made it onto the stage and was met with mostly negative reviews. The film lacked the charm and good heartedness of its predecessor and falls painfully flat.
While sequels can sometimes be as great as their predecessors, these movies unfortunately didn't make the cut.
