Features

The iPad Pro 9.7 was announced on March 21, 2016 at Apple's “Let Us Loop You In” event. It was released a week later on March 31, 2016 alongside the iPad Pro 12.9. The 9.7 inch iPad Pro was targeted to replace the iPad Air 2 and was the first iPad to feature a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera and True Tone display.

It was also the first iPad to feature the Apple A9X processor and the first iOS device to support a split-screen multitasking feature. Additionally, it was the first iPad to be compatible with Apple Pencil and the first to feature support for the Smart Connector, allowing the connection of a variety of accessories such as an external physical keyboard.

The iPad Pro 9.7 was eventually discontinued on March 21, 2018though it remained in some stores until the release of the iPad Pro 11.
