Charles Yu currently lives in Los Angeles, California.
Yu is originally from Rockville, Maryland, where he was born and raised. Prior to living in Los Angeles, he lived in other locations such as Madison, Wisconsin, and Seattle, Washington. He is a graduate of Cornell University and the University of California, Irvine.
Charles Yu is mainly known for his work as a novelist. He is the author of the books “How to Live Safely in a Science Fictional Universe”, “Sorry Please Thank You” and “Interior Chinatown”. He also has written for HBO’s series “Westworld”, FX’s “Legion”, and the recently released “The Epic Tale of Captain Underpants” movie.
Yu has received acclaim for his works and has won various awards, such as the National Book Award, Finalist for the 2009 PEN Center Fellow Award, and is a Yale Publishing Fellow. Alongside his writing, he also has taught classes at John Hopkins University, California College of the Arts, UCLA, USC, and University of Texas as an adjunct faculty member.
Outside of his writing, he is also a big movie fan and is part of a movie theater collective in Los Angeles called “Cinefamily” whose mission is to bring classic and modern film to the city. He’s also part of a literary non-profit organization called “826LA”, which is dedicated to teaching writing and literature to students in underserved communities.
