There are no definitive boundaries between them but the commonly accepted colours are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. When observed from a distance, these colours form the familiar rainbow arc with red being at the top and violet at the bottom.
Apart from the seven shades mentioned, the rainbow also contains varying degrees of each of the above colours. When the light is broken, it produces different hues such as pink, grey, and brown.
