A developmental editor is an editor who works with authors to help them develop their manuscripts. They focus on the big picture, helping authors shape and structure their stories, as well as providing feedback on characters and plot. They can also help authors with the overall organization of their manuscripts, as well as with grammar and syntax. They are usually hired by publishers to work on manuscripts before they are published.
