Memoir 44 is an incredibly enjoyable and engaging two-player war game with a fantastic balance of theme, complexity, and game play. It pits two opponents against one another as opposing generals during World War II. The game does a great job of conveying a sense of challenge and combat through its innovative game mechanisms. On your turn, you will take command of units, roll dice representing soldiers, direct their movements, and use special command cards to gain the upper hand on your enemy.
If you are looking for a two-player war game, Memoir 44 is an excellent choice. It is simple enough to learn quickly and offers plenty of strategic possibilities. The game also plays quickly and is great for short or long gaming sessions. With the numerous expansions available, you can tailor the game to your exact needs and create different scenarios.
At the same time, if you are looking for something more advanced or detailed, there are certainly better options. War Games such as Bolt Action or Empires: Age of Discovery offer more options and tend to be more detailed and involved. However, for a two-player war game, Memoir 44 is certainly worth it.
