At the end of The Nightmare Before Christmas, Jack Skellington remains a popular figure in Halloween Town, but he has grown tired of the mundane activities of the holiday season. In a spark of inspiration, he decides to kidnap Santa Claus and take over the Christmas season. Although Jack's intentions are purely good, he vastly underestimates the complexities of the job, and things quickly go awry.
Jack's plan quickly becomes a mess, and Santa is rescued by three of Santa's reindeer. We also learn that Jack's effects on the Christmas season has been incredibly detrimental. Santa frantically puts things back in order with the help of Sally and the citizens of Halloween Town, ultimately restoring the Christmas holiday with a Christmas miracle.
The citizens of both Halloween Town and Christmas Town are shown to have learned from their experiences and have begun to accept one another, with the citizens of Halloween Town expressing their newfound appreciation for the joy of Christmas. The movie ends with the characters singing the song “Just Because,” reinforcing the new relationships in place.
