Bill Bryson is an American-British author and was born in Des Moines, Iowa in 1951. He is best known for his humorous and popular travel writing. His books often explore the cultural and natural worlds of England, the United States, and other places he has visited. His works include A Walk in the Woods, Notes from a Small Island, In a Sunburned Country, and The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid. He has also written several narrative nonfiction books, such as A Short History of Nearly Everything, and At Home: A Short History of Private Life. Bryson is an honorary Member of the Order of the British Empire, and was named a "Foreign Honorary Member" of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016.
