In Bangla culture, Gaye Holud is a traditional wedding ceremony, consisting of friends and family of the bride and groom coming together to celebrate the wedding and as a gesture of best wishes for the couple's union. It is called Haldi (or Haldi Ceremony) in Hindi, while in English it is often referred to as the Turmeric Ceremony.
The ceremony begins when the bride's family visits the groom's home to celebrate the upcoming marriage. It is customary for them to bring with them a turmeric paste, made from powdered turmeric and water. The paste is then applied to the face, hands and feet of both the bride and groom. The turmeric is believed to have therapeutic properties and bring good luck to the union.
The ceremony is also accompanied by various customs, such as singing and dancing, ritual clothing and jewellery, and the giving of traditional gifts such as sweets. It is a joyous and fun-filled event that marks the beginning of a long-lasting union between two people.
