Though InDesign is not built specifically for handling EPUB files, you can import them using the document setup option. You can either use the “file” menu, or directly drag and drop the EPUB file into InDesign. However, before you proceed with the import, there are certain things you should know.
Adobe InDesign will only recognize the text content in an EPUB file. This means that any images or other types of media will not be imported. In addition, the EPUB file must be unzipped before you can import it into InDesign. If you try to import a zipped EPUB file, InDesign will give you an error message.
Once you’ve unzipped the EPUB file, you can import it into InDesign. To do this, open InDesign and go to “File > Document Setup.” In the “Document Setup” dialog box, select “EPUB” from the “General” tab. Then click “OK.”
You can now import the EPUB file into InDesign. To do this, go to “File > Place” and select the unzipped EPUB file. Once the file is imported, you can edit the text as you would with any other InDesign document.
However, keep in mind that the formatting of the EPUB file may not be preserved when you import it into InDesign. This is because EPUB files are designed to be reflowable, which means that the text will adjust to fit the screen size of the device on which it is being viewed. In contrast, InDesign documents are designed to be printed. As a result, the text in an EPUB file that is imported into InDesign may not look the same as it did in the original EPUB file.
