One of the funniest fiction book I've ever read is "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy Toole. It follows the life of Ignatius J. Reilly, a lazy, slobbish, and highly opinionated man who lives with his mother in New Orleans. Despite his lack of ambition, Ignatius sees himself as an intellectual and criticizes everyone and everything around him. The story is full of humorous situations, like Ignatius accidentally getting a job and then promptly getting fired, or his interactions with the eccentric characters he encounters. The writing is clever and the characters are so absurd and over-the-top that it's impossible not to laugh out loud.
